Standard
The Standard profile is the learning sweet spot. Candidate notes are visible, techniques are named in hints, and the interface provides enough tools to tackle Gentle and Moderate puzzles comfortably.
What You See
Everything in Relaxed, plus:
- Candidate notes — pencil marks showing which digits remain possible in each cell
- Function toolbar — note mode toggle, focus mode, exclude mode, technique scanner
- Status bar — difficulty rating and puzzle metadata
- Remaining count badges — digit keys show how many placements remain for each digit
- Radial menu — long-press a cell for quick access to common actions
- Multi-cell selection — pan to select multiple cells for batch note editing
- Paper Mode — available for manual candidate management (learn more)
What's Not Included
Standard keeps things approachable by holding back the most advanced tools:
- No Sudoku Spaces — the grid stays in standard rc view
- No strong link overlays — conjugate pair visualisation is a Deep feature
- No trace mode — the advanced input mode for chain tracing
- No 3D cube view — the spatial puzzle visualisation
Mistakes
Standard deliberately lets you place any digit, even if it's wrong. This is intentional — testing contradictions is a valid solving strategy. If you suspect a digit might not be correct, place it and see if a contradiction appears elsewhere. If it does, use Restore Puzzle from the menu to undo back to your last correct state.
The app silently tracks where things went wrong, so the restore always takes you to a clean position.
Hints in Standard
Hints name the technique being applied (Naked Pair, Hidden Single, X-Wing, etc.) and show the pattern on the grid with colour-coded highlights. You can step through multi-step explanations to understand why the technique works.
The technique scanner shows all available techniques in the current position, letting you choose which one to explore.
Who Is It For?
- Players learning solving techniques beyond basic scanning
- Intermediate solvers working through Gentle and Moderate puzzles
- Anyone who wants candidate notes and technique guidance without the full advanced toolkit
