Using the Digit Pad

The digit pad provides quick access to digit entry and note editing, along with swipe gestures for common actions.

Digit Entry

With a cell selected, tap a digit on the pad to place it.

Note Editing

When in notes mode, the pad toggles candidates on and off. The current state of each candidate is indicated visually.

Digit Counts

The pad displays how many of each digit remain to be placed in the puzzle, helping you focus on digits with fewer remaining placements.

Smart Keyboard (Pro Feature)

With the Smart Keyboard enabled (Pro subscription, toggle in Quick Settings), the digit pad adapts its appearance to context — keys are styled and filtered based on the selected cell, current mode, and remaining candidates. This makes it easier to see at a glance which digits are relevant.

Without Pro, the digit pad provides the same functionality — digit entry, note editing, swipe gestures, and counts — but without the contextual styling.

Swipe Gestures

Swipe across the digit pad to trigger configurable actions. Each direction can be assigned independently in Keypad gesture settings.

Horizontal Swipes (Left / Right)

By default, horizontal swipes cycle digit focus — swipe right to advance to the next unsolved digit, swipe left for the previous one.

Available actions: cycle digit focus, cycle strong links, disabled.

Vertical Swipes (Up / Down)

By default, vertical swipes cycle the strong links overlay — swipe up or down to step through link graphs for each digit.

Available actions: cycle digit focus, cycle strong links, disabled.

Diagonal Swipes

Four diagonal directions are available, each configurable to any gesture action:

Direction Default Action
Down-left Toggle digit focus
Down-right Toggle notes mode
Up-left Toggle links
Up-right Disabled

Bounce Animation

When you swipe the digit pad, it shifts in the swipe direction with a dampened offset, then bounces back with an elastic spring animation. Inactive directions return smoothly. This provides visual feedback for your gesture without disrupting the layout.

Tips

  1. Watch the counts — Digits with few remaining placements often reveal patterns
  2. Use keyboard shortcuts — On desktop, use number keys 1–9 for quick entry
  3. Check cell validity — Dimmed digits cannot be placed in the selected cell
  4. Swipe to cycle focus — Horizontal swipes are the fastest way to step through digit focus filters
  5. Diagonal shortcuts — Swipe down-right to toggle notes mode without reaching for the button
